Super Robot Taisen kicks MGS4

Posted in: PSP Game News |

super-robot-taisen.jpg

After an impressive first week and approximately 500,000 copies sold in Japan, the blockbuster PS3 game was stealthily dispatched by a handheld title. Super Robot Taisen A Portable kicked snake’s butt with an impressive 102,000 copies sold this week, to a paltry 67,000 copies for MGS4. The embarrassment is lessened somewhat by the fact that Japanese gamers absolutely love the Robot Taisen series, which predictably features giant fighting robots and anime art style.

When asked for comment, Hideo Kojima was unavailable. His personal assistant stated that he was lurking in the bushes outside the offices of the Super Robot Taisen developer wearing nothing but a cardboard box and speaking furtively into some kind of walkie-talkie.

PS1 classic games are available for PSP

xenogears-box-art.jpg

According to a NeoGAF posting, this month’s Dengeki PlayStation reveals the very first PS1 games Square Enix will revive on the Japanese PSN. The titles will be available for 600 yen each, and will begin releasing in Japan today. There are twelve titles planned, starting with Xenogears. However, there are a number of other titles to be released today, such as Einhander, Astronoka, Rakugaki Showtime, Raystorm and Fighters Impact. While none of these titles feature the words “Final” or “Fantasy” in them, many are considered classics of the PS1 era. Titles like Xenogears can be pretty rare, so these re-releases are of great convenience to those that missed them at first. At only 600 yen each, this is an incredible bargain, especially when one considers the ability to play these downloadables on both the PS3 and on the go with the PSP.

Unfortunately, SCEA and Square Enix USA haven’t announced any similar plans to release English language versions of these classics. We hope that they follow suit soon.

Is Sex in videogames a problem?

Posted in: PSP Game News |

As the debate rages on, is sexual content in videogames really as big a problem as the media lets on?

It seems that every few decades, another form of entertainment will come about and become a pariah to the mainstream. Everything from comic books to rock music has been scapegoated for provocative content and heralded by some as the downfall of society. Now, it seems that video games are on the chopping block, at first for violent content with games like Mortal Kombat and Doom being among the favorites for causing violence amongst children and teenagers. Now, the industry is under fire for sexual content, beginning with the infamous Hot Coffee scandal that broke concerning sexual content in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. It seems that politicians and mainstream media is out for blood yet again to demonize the industry.

Performance Coach is introduced by EA’s Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09

Posted in: PSP Game News |

Hank Haney serves as gamers’ personal performance coach.

tiger-woods-pga-tour.jpg

June 17, 2008 - Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 features dynamic, personalized gameplay via Tiger Woods’ personal coach, Hank Haney. An all-new addition to this year’s game, Haney will assist gamers as they hit the links and try to advance their career to win the FedExCup. Right out of the box, Haney will assess your game in four areas: Power, Accuracy, Short Game and Putting and gamers will be given a skill level in each of those four areas.

In Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09, a player’s skill level is dynamic, constantly adjusting throughout the round just as it would during a real afternoon out on the links. Following each round, Haney will deliver customized feedback on a player’s performance. This feedback system allows all gamers, rookies or PGA Tour pros, to compete and enjoy the game at any level.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour will be available on August 26 on the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system, the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 computer entertainment systems, the PSP (PlayStation Portable) system and Wii.
