It’s been over a month now since Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G came out in Japan, and ever since then, console sales of the PSP have exploded, dominating the market share with no close competition. Yes, it is true that the PSP is slipping slowly when compared to the time when the game originally came out, but it doesn’t change the fact that the PSP is still the clear cut console-seller in Japan.

Last week, the PSP sold 85,421 units, selling 43.02% of all consoles total. This week, the numbers show the PSP selling quite a bit more, 100,870 units to be exact. However, this was only 41.06% of the market, down from last week, as consoles sales in general were on the rise, particularly benefiting the Wii.

So how long can we expect this sales trend to last? Your guess is as good as mine, but you could probably make some education guesses if you really wanted to.
Here are the official numbers:

  • PSP - 100,870
  • Wii - 71,518
  • Nintendo DS - 52,542
  • PlayStation 3 - 10,177
  • PlayStation 2 - 8,802
  • Xbox 360 - 1,725

total = 245,635
